On April 20, 2020, at 10:06 pm (ET), President Trump tweeted that he "will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States" in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He later tweeted that he intends to sign the Executive Order on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

As of today, Wednesday, April 22, 2020, very little details of this Executive Order are known. However, President Trump stated the executive order will primarily impact the permanent resident card (green card) application process and will last 60 days. At this time, we do not have enough information about the Executive Order to determine the impact of the order. As all immigration offices are currently closed to the public, this new suspension order may not create a change to the current practice in place.

At this time, the American people are facing a health crisis unlike any that we have faced in our lifetime. We are in need of policies that will address the current health crisis so that we may get our society and economy back on track. This current order only serves to distract and shift blame.

During this crisis we have seen first-hand the importance of those working in agriculture, healthcare, scientists and researchers, as well as those who work in factories and drive trucks. Regardless of where these individuals were born, we all have an important role to play in rebuilding our economy and fighting against our common enemy, COVID-19.

The Law Office of Rosetta Thompson, LLC is keeping a close eye on the situation as we are dedicated to helping our clients, immigrants, and the american people come out the other side of this pandemic happy, healthy, and safe. Please be sure to check back for updates.
